When you’re in New Mexico, you’ll still see plenty of people wearing masks.
Many businesses, like restaurants, still have limits when it comes to the number of people allowed inside or outside.
In other states, like neighboring Texas, there is a different story.
“I get the natural tendency to wonder why we can’t be like them,” New Mexico Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. David Scrase said.
He said limits are still in place in New Mexico because people are still getting sick and dying from COVID-19.
“We still have five to 10 deaths almost every day. The pandemic is not over,” he said.
Scrase said the vaccine is definitely helping the case count go down.
He said as more New Mexicans are registered for the vaccine and are getting the shot, the number of COVID-19 cases is declining. He said science will determine when the state lifts more restrictions. Credits AP.
