A Mimbres teenager lost control of her vehicle, left the road and struck a tree on a state road near Silver City on Monday.
Sierra Cruz Lopez, 18, the driver, was killed in the crash on State Road 15 near mile post 11, north of Silver City.
New Mexico State Police responded to the crash just around midday
Their investigation indicated a 2007 Subaru, driven by Lopez was traveling south on State Road 15. For unknown reasons, Lopez lost control of the vehicle.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police reported, and seat belts were properly used.
